Duke Farms

1112 Dukes Parkway West, Hillsborough, NJ 08844

None

Duke Farms was built in 1893 as the estate of James Buchanan Duke, an American entrepreneur who founded Duke Power and the American Tobacco Company. After James’s death in 1925, his fortune was inherited by his daughter, Doris Duke. An environmentalist long before it was fashionable, Doris envisioned in her will that Duke Farms should serve and protect wildlife, as well as be used for agriculture, horticulture, and research. Inspired by Doris's guidance, Duke Farms opened to the public in 2012, with a mission to be a leader in environmental stewardship and inspire visitors to become informed stewards of the land. Today, visitors are immersed in a variety of nature experiences from birding to outdoor classes to field journaling. The property is operated and managed by the Doris Duke Foundation.
